You can find out more about the festival at www.TexasNightSkyFestival.org

The intent of the Festival is to increase the appreciation of the night sky and the world around us. This goes hand in hand with increasing awareness about the type of lighting that provides needed light while it reduces glare, saves money, eliminates light trespass, protects the health and safety of living things, and saves our common view of the night sky.

Goals of the contest and exhibit include increasing public awareness of the importance of protecting our dark skies and giving photographers at all levels of experience a chance to capture, share, and receive recognition for beautiful and inspiring images. Suggested subjects include landscape astrophotography, starscapes, deep-space photography and nocturnal wildlife.

The contest is open to resident and visiting photographers of all ages.

The following prizes will be awarded:

  • A $100 prize will be awarded for the Best in Show
  • A $100 prize will be awarded for the Best Youth photo
  • Up to four $50 Awards of Excellence will be presented for the next most outstanding photos
  • Up to four additional $25 Awards of Merit will be presented at the discretion of the contest juror
